Is there anyway to disable autoshutdown after ~30mins.?
Maybe it is, but why? If you are using your player, it will not turn off. And when you are not using it then why should your player be turned on?

The drawer will not open, none of the controls do anything
Holding down the stop button and then pressing the standby button, player should be in off position when this is performd.

Is there an "Control in" connection on the back panel?.
No!

Is there some way to switch from NTSC to PAL or PAL to NTSC?
Turn off your player. Using the front panel controls, hold down >>| then press STANDBY/ON to switch the TV system. The TV system changes as follows:
• AUTO --> NTSC
• NTSC --> PAL
• PAL --> AUTO

Where is the dimmer button located?
The DV-380/383/585/588/2850 does not have any dimmer button, unofficial firmware has solved this by adding an extra function to RC key 0. Hold this key longer to change VFD brightness

When I switch on the player, the player goes to a Regional Settings Screen where it prompts me to select a region code from 1-6.
(Player’s Region Settings)
<1> : Region
<2> : Region
<3> : Region
<4> : Region
<5> : Region
<6> : Region
Pick Out One Of These!
But I am unable to select any region using the remote control or the buttons on the player. What do I do?
You need to get a Pioneer Service Remote. When you have it you should press: [ESC] [A.MON] [Numbers], where [Numbers] correspond to the region number you want to set. Be aware that you can only set this once, if you set the wrong region number for your area, there is no turning back.
With RS232 cable:
1. Connect cable to the player and PC.
2. Power up your player, wait until region selection menu will appear.
3. Run MtkTool on PC.
2. In MtkTool click toolbar button with compact disc icon (R/W Register).
3. Select "8032 XDATA"
4. In "Addr" field enter FB00 (F, B and two zeros)
5. In "Data" field enter 9C if your player´s original region is 2, 9E if your player´s original region is 4 or 9F if your player´s original region is 5.
6. Click "Write". Region selection menu should disappear.
