For subtitles extracted from DVD use "RGB" palette, and for subtitles made by Son2VobSubMod app use the "YUV" option. [You have to turn off the movie resume (2 x stop) to accept the changes if you are changing it during the movie playback]
- new feature in "Initial settings" -> "Options": "DVD Fast Start" - turned on causes that DVD-Video movies will be played without showing the FBI screens, ads, menus, etc. Player will jump directly to the main movie. But this feature can cause problems on some DVD-Video discs, in this case you should turn it off.
- changed icons and some colors in the filebrowser
- actual folder name displayed in white color
- Fixed bug of incorrect displaying position of cursor in DVD menu
- unblocked 4 speeds of fast forwarding for DivX/xvid films. Rewinding is still one, fastest speed.
- fixed some problems with reading subtitles for divx/xvid
- Now the player reads all available subtitles in film folder, even if the subtitle file name differs then film name. It is possible to choose them using Subtitle key on remote control
- intelligent subtitle line cut. It means that if subtitle line is too long and do not fit to the TV screen, the player cuts it just to fit the screen in more rows.
- Fixed bug with disappearing last letter in the subtiles rows

Russian/Hebrew filenames are shown in file browser, simultaneously
English, Russian and Hebrew OSD menus.
Hebrew, Russian and West European (codepage 1252 - Spanish/French/German/etc.) subtitles fonts, normal and big for each codepage - 6 fonts in total.
Subtitles reformatted: joined and re-wrapped, so no word is cut anymore.
Fixed problem with font switcher that cured various problems: disappearing subtitles after pressing Home Menu, empty filename after pressing "display" button, etc.
Small cosmetic changes

Added correct displaying of hebrew filenames in browser

Additional info:
Menu, subs area patching, fonts reworking, C++/Assembler coding and testing on different Pioneer models - is done by Dany Moroz (nickname "moroz") and Stanislav Borutsky (nickname "cax"). Hebrew reversing code is developed and Copyrighted © 2006 Dany Moroz.

MPEG4 Subtitles notes:
======================
This firmware has a so-called "smart subtitles reformatting" feature, but you should use it properly ! If you do it wrong, you can experience strange wrapping behaviour. Here is what you have to do for getting the best result:
- if you are going to see subtitles in Russian or in one of the West European (codepage 1252) languages:
a) select the appropriate normal or big font in Subtitles->Font menu
b) ensure that English is selected in Language->Subtitle Language menu (and not any of Hebrew options !)
- if you are going to see subtitles in Hebrew:
a) select "Hebrew (norm)" or "Hebrew (big)" font in Subtitles->Font menu
b) ensure one of 3 Hebrew options is selected in Language->Subtitle Language menu (and not English or Other !)
There are 3 types of supported Hebrew subtitles:
- encoded (converted with HebMTK program with "Encode" option)
- normal (gimel-bet-aleph/DVD). No need to reverse subtitles.
- reversed (aleph-bet-gimel). Use with pre-reversed subtitles files.
Known issues:
- Russian/Hebrew filenames can appear incorrectly when "display" button is pressed during playback (but only with specific subtitles fonts)

- Only height<=37px subtitles fonts are capable to show up to 4 lines or more, otherwise you will see 3 lines max.

How to set Subtitles to your Language:
- For CP1252 users:
The player by default are set to CP1252, so you don´t have to do anything
- For CP1250, 1251, 1254 and 1255 users:
Just go to "Subtitle Language" "Other Language" and select your language. The player will select the right CP for you.

However these firmwares are cheked and should work good, I do not take any resposibility for any damage and/or inconvenience, triggered by installing and using it.
Remember you install firmware´s, on your own risk!

How do I update the players firmware??
Upgrading your firmware will not remove your region free settings
Go to "where do I find firmware files" future down the page
After updating, some of the user-customisable settings of the player may be reset to the original "fresh-out-of-the-box" defaults. Please verify in advance of the update if there are any such customisations, and where necessary re-apply the desired changes in the user-customisable settings of the player after the update.

Update instructions
Settings in NERO:

-          File system = ISO 9660 only
-          File name lenght (ISO) = Max of 11 = 8+3 chars ( level 1)
-          character set = ISO 9660
Label -- PIONEER <--Capital letters-- i allways use "manual"
Write method -- Disc-at-once
Burn -- 4x
Verify writen data

1. Turn on the player, and open the disc tray
2. Put the Software Update Disc on the tray, and close the tray
3. A screen will be displayed inviting you to push the "play" button to start the update
4. The player will load the data, and the tray will open again. It is safe to remove the Software Update Disc from the tray now. Leave the tray open.
5. Wait until the update process finishes and the Pioneer logo is shown on the screen. The update process will complete in less than 5 minutes.

Attention: DO NOT unplug the power cable or turn off the player during the update process. Do not touch the player at all until you see the Pioneer logo again

Where do I find firmware files?

OSD languages in the firmwares are: English (Default), French, German, Italian and Spanish
According to reports these firmware files are allso working on Pioneer DV-383/588 players.

Is it possible to downgrade firmware?
Yes, use the same procedure like for upgrading, just burn older firmware.

Can we use al the original firmware and modded firmware of the dv-585 for updating the 380?
YES. Its compatible with all DV-2850/380/383/585/588/686 Pioneer divx players.

Is there a possibility to turn back to my original fw if something is going wrong ???
Yes.

How to create the update disc!

WARNING:

These firmwares, even if they have already been tested by several users, are published "AS-IS", without any representations or warranties , and you agree to use them at your sole risk. If a problem happen during update, the guarantee of your player could be simply canceled! This is NOT any official Pioneer updates. If you kill your player, you can´t use your warranty to get it fixed!

YOU WARRANTY WILL BE CANCELED WHEN YOU USE THESE FIRMWARES.

If you do not agree with this, then JUST DON´T USE THE FIRMWARES AND GO AWAY.
Only use firmwares for the palyer it is intended. If you use it in another player it will just die. By using the firmwares found on this pages you agree to the terms above!

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

When updating the player and it is finished, the display and TV-screen will go black and it actually looks like it died! This is normal DO NOT TOUCH THE PLAYER untill you see the Pioneer logo and the disc tray have closed! On some players it says CLEAR when the disc tray is closing!

Problem that can occure when updating is:
When update is finnished, the TV-screens goes black as it should but player does still say LOADING, it does not restart it self!
If you are ABSOLUTLEY sure the update is done, wait 10 minutes to be sure.
Close the tray by hand, then pull the power cord and then put it back! When you start the player again should read CLEAR and start normal!

RESET your player after upgrade!!!!
